Exhibitions 1929-1938.
From the opening of the museum in 1929 and then every year till 1938, the Ersatz Museum held an annual Summer Exhibition. This was open to the public and often featured some of the more important or interesting finds collected during the year. It was usually held in August and took place in the main hall, while the rest of the museum remained closed. Although the first such exhibition was instigated by Joseph Jacobovski himself (held in September 1929 just after the opening of the museum,) over the following years he would slowly distanced himself from the event and by 1933 they were organised and curated by Manfred Sigler alone. Jacobovski, always the academic was more inclined towards restricting admission to more serious visitors, while Sigler believed in allowing a more open access by anyone who was interested. The retaining of the annual Summer Exhibition is seen as a compromise between the two men.
The several examples of posters and guides illustrate the progress from the sombre 1929 event organised by Jacobovski, into a more popularised approach developed by Sigler. Unlike other museum publications these posters were distributed widely and so several examples have survived.
